The current archival moment is a moment of war in which institutions of heritage become targets of power struggles and violence. It is also a moment of a crisis in public confidence in which cultural policies call into question, rather than encourage and support, heritage work. How can institutions and heritage workers navigate this moment and find sources of resilience in their environments and networks?
Hadi Alipanah is a film critic, journalist, and scholar. Since 2008, he has been writing reviews for specialized short film magazines and several other journals and newspapers. He has organized short film festivals, curated short film screenings, and supervised the production of hundreds of shorts. In 2015, he founded FiDAN, Iranian short film magazine, as an independent platform for introducing Iranian short films and filmmakers. His ongoing research on the history of short films in Iranian cinema led him to discover the activities of the short film collective Cinema-ye Azad, which was active in Iran between 1969 and 1979.
Vinzenz Hediger is director of the Cinémathèque suisse. He was Krupp Foundation professor of documentary forms at Ruhr University Bochum from 2004 to 2011 and professor of cinema studies at Goethe University Frankfurt from 2011 to 2026. He is a co-founder of NECS - European Network of Cinema and Media Studies (necs.org) and the founding editor of the Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaft (www.zfmedienwissenschaft.de).
Olena Honcharuk is a cultural manager, museologist, and copywriter, graduated culture studies at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in 2000. Since 2016 she has worked for the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre in Kyiv—Ukrainian national film archive. Currently she is the creative director, focusing on film collection preservation and development. Together with the Dovzhenko Centre’s team, she contributed to the opening of the Film Museum; presentation of the exhibitions VUFKU. Lost & Found (2019), Flights in Dreams and Reality (2020), Il Centenario. Fellini nel mondo (2021), River Whaled Like a Wounded Beast (2023), international retrospectives of Sergei Parajanov (2024) and Oleksandr Dovzhenko (2026).
